Under the Ministry of Defence, conducted by the Service Selection Board, the SSB exam 2020 takes place to evaluate potential candidates to become officers of the Indian Armed Forces. The board assesses the candidates and chooses them based on their personality, intelligence, potency, and compatibility. The board uses a standardized protocol of evaluation to judge.

You must be between 16 years and 30 years of age. There is a relaxation in this criterion up to five years for SC/ST applicants and three years for OBC applicants. In the case of the Air Force Academy, the person has to be born on or after 1992 and on or before 1st January 1996.
What Qualifications Do I Need to Apply for the SSB Exam?
You need to possess these basic qualifications to qualify for the interview. Applicants must be a graduate from any government university or any deemed to be a university. For Naval Academy, a bachelor’s degree in engineering is a must. For Force Academy, a Bachelor’s degree in either engineering, technology, or science with physics and mathematics is a must. For OAT and Indian Military Academy, a bachelor’s degree or a correspondent from a recognized university is mandatory.
Steps to Apply for the SSB Exam
Applicants are notified of their candidacy once they clear the UPSC through call letters. By any chance you do not receive your call letter after clearing the UPSC, it is advised to contact the concerned officer immediately. In the case of Territorial Army candidates, they would have to be recommended by a Preliminary Interview Board or have been asked to be present by the Service Selection Board.
Once you have received your call letter, you can go to the official site upsc.gov.in. One application is accepted per candidate, so avoid sending multiple application forms. Select the exam center carefully because once you submit your form, you cannot change your preference. The final step is the payment of fees. For the General and OBC category candidates, the fee is Rs 200. For SC/ST category and female candidates, the fee is exempted.
SSB Details: Schedule of the Examination
The intelligence and psychological tests are spread over six days. The test contains Basic Intelligence Evaluation, Psychological Evaluation, Group Testing Officers Activities, Personal Interview, and Conference.
You must reach the venue one day before the exam, and you will be briefed on the details of the next five days. Once it arrived, the first intelligence test will be conducted. Your verbal and non-verbal skills will also be tested along with your aptitude. You will be shown a picture for 30 seconds and will be given the task to describe it in story form. On the second day, psychological tests like the Thematic Apperception Test, Situation Reaction Test, Word Association Test, and self-description are conducted; these tests demand your large concentration.
The GTO activities are conducted in the next two days, it involves different types of indoor and outdoor group assignments like group discussion, obstacle race, group planning, regular group chores. There would also be individual tasks like lecturette, obstacles, and command tasks. This group of activities evaluates your ability to work in a team and as an individual. It also assesses your leadership characteristics and your ability to tackle situations calmly. The Personal interview can be conducted at any time between the second and the fourth day, so be prepared beforehand as it is very crucial for your assessment. On the fifth day, the board’s Deputy President addresses the closing ceremony. A conference is organized, followed by the declaration of the results.
Types of SSB exams:
SSB NDA– Every year in January and July, UPSC issues call letters for NDA (National Defence Academy) and NAE (Naval Academy Examination), once you clear this examination, you will be selected for the Defence Academy SSB interview. SSB CDC– If you want to be a part of the Indian Military Academy, Officers Training Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy, then apply for the Combined Defence Services; the interview is as long as five-six days. Officers Training Academy, Indian Military, and Navy wrap up the process in five days, whereas the Air Force Academy takes six. SSB Army Technical Entry Scheme- If you want to become a technical officer in the Indian Army, then this is the best course available for you. This course is designed for 10+2 students, and the Indian Army releases notification for the TES interview twice a year. To be eligible to apply, you must have passed 10+2 with 70% in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. You’d be shortlisted based on your percentage decided by the Rtg Date, and the test will comprise 5 days. You will be screened on your first test, which will determine if you get to move on or not. SSB Navy Technical Entry Scheme– Unmarried male candidates are invited to apply and join the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala, for a 4-year degree course under the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme. The Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence has the right to fix cut off for shortlisting candidates for the SSB exam based on JEE All India Rank.
