Medical Policy for Officers Entry into the Indian Army

There are two ways to join the Indian Army either as an officer or as a Soldier. But the medical criteria or policy is completely the same for that. There might be some changes in the medical when you are applying for the Flying Branch of the Indian Army. You may have to appear for the special medical exam that is only conducted for the pilots. Selection Process Officers in the Army:

To join the Indian Army as an officer, A candidate must have that officer like Quality to join the service.  To become an officer in the service.  One will need to clear the Service Selection Board Interview and Medical Tests. After clearing the Written Examination, All the selected candidates proceed for the SSB Interview, They get free tickets of Indian Railways AC third tier or Second-tier if they are appearing for the Interview first time. Once you get selected in the Interview and you will proceed for a Medical examination that would be done at the Military Hospitals under the supervision of military doctors. Army Officer’s Medical Test Policy:

To join the service, A person must be completely fit and the body must not carry any disease. A minor problem in the medical exam can cause temporary rejection.  Here are some criteria or medical policy for Indian Army:

  • Candidate heights must be at least 157cm. There is some relaxation in height for the candidate who belongs to any special region like Manipur, Hilly Areas, etc.
  • The chest should be in good shape with 5cm of minimum expansion.
  • You must have full-grown teeth with any teeth problems like spirea and other dental issues.
  • Your bones and joints must be strong and without defect.
  • Any serious injury in bone, muscles, joints can be a reason for rejection.
  • The eyesight of the candidate should be 6/6 with glasses or without glasses.
  • If wearing glasses it should not be worst than 6/9
  • If you have weak eyesight you cannot become a front-line officer.
  • You have an option to join educational Departments, Finance departments and Logistics departments, etc.

Indian Army allows Eye Correction Surgery. One can appear for the Lasik Surgery in order to correct the vision but there are some criteria for acceptance of Surgery:-

  • When your surgery is done, you must have attended the age of 20 years.
  • If the surgery is done before 20 years. You may get permanent rejection.
  • Eyesight should be 6/6 after eye correction surgery.
  • If a candidate has had 2nd surgery in order to correct their vision, the candidate will be permanently rejected.

These are some basic external medical will be done. Once it’s completed, you will proceed for the Internal Medical exam.

Internal Medical Exam for Army Officer’s Entry:

In the Internal medical examination, your complete internal body organs will be examined like Kidney, lungs, and all other organs, etc.

A minor mistake or defect in the medical examination can cause temporary medical rejection. You must be aware of this. There are some criteria for rejection. A candidate can get two types of rejection in the medical. Temporary or Permanent. The temporary rejection is given to the candidate. When he or she is found unfit for any problems and that problem is correctable. You will get some time from the medical Board to fix that problem. And Permanent rejection is only given in case of any major problem in the candidate’s body. Once you get a permanent rejection from the authority.  You have an option to re-apply to the medical authority and if they allow, the same day you can appear for the re-medical examination. But if you are rejected again. There is no way of turning back to the academy.

Indian Army, as well as other forces, demands a high level of fitness and a person will have to fit, is he/she want to be in the service. Even after the selection, if you will be found unfit,  you may ask to quit but in that case, you will get a different job like in the Army education department, canteen Services, etc. The Medical Policy for Indian Army as well as for Soldiers’ entry will be completely the same. How to be fit for Army Medical Test:

There is no special remedy to be fit in a day for the medical exam. You will need to take care of your body. There are also some academy that offers pre-medical examination and it would be very helpful for you if you have your medical exam done before applying or before the real medical examination. If you have a minor problem, you can fix that and then appear for the test.
